Dr Makakole trained as a plastic and reconstructive surgeon at the University of KwaZulu Natal, Durban. He was admitted as a Fellow of the College of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons in 2010 and has since been working as a consultant Plastic Surgeon at Greys Hospital in Pietermaritzburg. He has been a member of the APRASSA Executive Committee since 2020. His main interests include Head and Neck Surgery, Breast Surgery and Lymphoedema management. He is the principal microsurgeon in Pietermaritzburg and an integral member of the Head and Neck team at Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital. He recently completed a fellowship in Advanced Breast Reconstruction and Aesthetic Surgery with Professor Mustapha Hamdi in Brussels, Belgium.
Dr Makakole is currently involved in the training of registrars in plastic surgery and is an examiner in the final examinations of the Fellowship of the College of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons of South Africa. He has a keen interest in research and innovation, breaking new ground and leading the advancement in the field of Plastic Surgery in South Africa.
